The Drexel Society, Inc.

The Drexel Squires was established on October J, 1986 in Houston, Texas as an affiliate of the Drexel Society.

By the authority vested in her as national president of The Drexel Society, Drexelaire Elise LeNoir Morris presided over the establishment and inducted eight members. Mr. Paul Matthews, initiator of the group assisted in the ritual.

The Squires are dedicated to” SERVICE WITH HONOR” in efforts to increase religious vocations and to improve the quality
of life for mankind. They are pledged to uphold to uphold the high ideals of true manhood with undying allegiance to God and to do all in their power to extend the image of The Drexel Society.

The induction ceremony, written by Drexelaire Morris, was impressive and inspirational. She gave the background and purposes of The Drexel Society and The Drexel Squires. Drexelaire Charolette Davis gave a brief history of The Drexell Society and Sister Thomasita Daley, S.B.S, Directress of the Venerable Katharine Drexel Guild of Bensalem, Pa., gave a brief history of the life of Venerable Katharine Drexel.

The Squires elected Paul Matthews as president and John E. Morris as sec-retary. The remaining officers are to be elected at their first meeting•• The officers were installed by Drexelaire Mary Lee Mays of the Los Angeles Chapter. The Squires chose as their song ” I AM THINE , O LORD ” and for their motto they chose,” SERVICE WITH HONOR”.

An elegant champagne reception followed with the most recently inducted Drexelaires serving as special hostesses. In addition to Sister Thomasita, other special guests were Sister Roland, S.B.S, and Ivy Darensbourg LeNoir, mother of the national president.

In keeping with their role as affiliates, the Squires joined the Drexels in the second biennial convention and in presenting the first Christian Service Award to Mr. Paul  Joseph for his outstanding service in gathering food and clothing for the needy in Ethopia. These items he personally delivered to the distributing: agency in Africa.

The charter Squires are: Raymond Bourgeois, John Brown, Sylvester Francois, Percy Green, Paul Ledet, Paul Matthews, John E. Morris and Russell Wills. At their first meeting they rescinded the election of Squire Morris as secretary in order to elect him as vice president. Squire John Brown was elected as secretary.  Calvin Donatto and Larry Green are also charter members.
